BACK TO LUMBER MAIN

  • Red oak is best utilized for projects that will be used indoors. White Oak is a better alternative for outdoor applications. Other outdoor lumbers we recommend are: Sassafras, Mahogany and Teak.

  • A lateral wye is best utilized when the branch comes off the side of your pipe. It is best to avoid having the brach point straigth down. This helps to keep your woodchips from going the wrong direction.

  • When assembling our dust collection system, we used shrink wrap over the pipe joints.  It creates an airtight seal that is easy to remove later when you need to adjust the shop set up.  It also doesn't leave behind a sticky residue.

  • Gluing Tip - When gluing up solid lumber, avoid "boxing in" or creating a "bread board end" on your piece.  The panel is going to expand and contract across the grain.  If it doesn't have room to expand/contract as the weather changes it will cause your piece to pull apart or crack.  You might consider using a veneered plywood for your center piece and solid lumber for the 4 edges.

  • Blade Cleaning Tip -- Use a typical oven cleaner instead of purchasing high priced blade pitch remover.  It's less expensive and works just as well!

  • Miter Slot Lubricating Tip - Use a carpenter pencil to lubricate the miter slot.  Simply drag the graphite back and forth a few times over the slot.  The graphite is a dry lubricant and won't collect dust like liquid lubricants will.
